Free online BPM finder for producers, DJs, and dancers

BPMfinder.ca is a free BPM webpage that helps you find the tempo of a song online without installing software. Whether you need an MP3 BPM analyzer, a quick WAV tempo check, or a FLAC beat detector, this tool runs in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

How to use this free tempo detector

  1. Open BPMfinder.ca (bookmark it for quick access).
  2. Drop an audio file or click to browse.
  3. Read the detected BPM and confidence score.
  4. Use Half / Double if the groove is half-time or double-time.
  5. Use Tap tempo to match a beat by hand.

Why use a browser-based BPM tool?

Many paid DAWs include tempo detection, but a free online BPM finder is faster when you are on a phone, laptop, or studio machine without plugins. Because analysis is client-side, it is suitable for unreleased demos and private practice tracks.

Frequently asked questions

Is this BPM finder free?
Yes — 100% free, no account required.
Is my music uploaded?
No. Detection uses your browser only; audio does not leave your device.
What is a good BPM confidence score?
Higher is better. Very short clips or ambient tracks may score lower — try a longer section with clear drums.
Can I use this for DJ mixing?
Yes. Knowing track BPM helps beatmatching and playlist planning.

How to read the confidence score

The confidence meter measures how tightly the detected beat intervals cluster. It is not a grade, and it does not know which count you intended. A steady electronic pulse usually scores high; a live drummer, a rubato intro, or an ambient passage may score lower even when the tempo is clear to your ear.

In our measured accuracy test, a 70 BPM click track returned 140 at 40% confidence, while an 80 BPM track returned 160 and a 180 BPM track returned 90 — both at 100% confidence. A high score means the detector found a consistent pulse. It does not mean the pulse is the one you would clap to.

Use the score as a prompt to double-check, not as a verdict. Check where the snare and backbeat land, try the Half and Double buttons, then confirm with tap tempo on a clean section. If the number still feels wrong, the step-by-step guide walks through the failure modes.
